Unite Union stands in solidarity with trans whanau against dangerous puberty blocker ban.
The ban on puberty blockers is a violent attack on the bodily autonomy of young people in this country and also sets the dangerous precedent for the curbing of access to abortion and contraceptives.
This will directly affect the youngest workers in our industries, who are routinely subjected to harassment and chronically underpaid. Repairing the damage from this ban will take decades.
Nobody gets to tell trans children and teenagers who they are but themselves.
A union is a place where we fight for each other. An injury to one is an injury to all.
We demand the ban be blocked and for the advancement of trans rights in this country. Some Employers already provide transition leave and other support for trans workers and we applaud this.
Free, gender-affirming care saves lives and should be easily accessible and free of charge.
