Enroling 101

Who can enrol to vote in Aotearoa?

You have to be 18 to vote but, you can enrol at 17 and vote at 18!
To vote in NZ you must be a resident or citizen and have lived in NZ for 12 months continually at some point in your life.
Niuean, Tokelau, Cook Islands, & Australia get automatic residency.
Refugees are automatic residents but must be here for 12 months.

What information do you need to enrol?

Full legal name
Date of birth
NZ residential address - students can enrol where they are living now or the one they call home - homeless can use their last known physical address or a shelters address
Whether your are enrolling for Māori roll or general roll
Your signature
Your New Zealand driver licence or
Your New Zealand passport or
Your RealMe verified identity

Enrolment update packs get sent in September. However if you moved house it probably went to an old house.
You can take someone with you behind the booth to vote if you choose to
Your information will not be data matched and cannot be shared with other government departments
Community groups working with enrolment can not use your info for their own purposes
The unpublished roll - people who are concerned about their personal safety or family safety can apply to go on the unpublished roll
