RBL members: changing your availability or desired hours on Serveme

We have had some reports of members being asked to change their "desired hours" and availability on Serveme recently.

Our advice is simple: do not make any changes unless you want to.

Reducing your availability or "desired hours" is likely to reduce your paid and Guaranteed Minimum Hours (GMH) as follows:

1. If you reduce your availability to exclude hours you normally work now your guaranteed hours will decrease almost immediately.

For example: If you normally work 4 hours on a Friday but exclude Fridays from your availability on Serveme, then your GMH will reduce by 4 hours

2. You may not be offered additional hours that become available outside your changed availability.

For example: If you excluded Mondays from your availability on Serveme you will not be offered additional shifts that become available on Mondays, even if you want more hours.

3. You may not be offered additional hours if they exceed your "desired hours" total.

For example: You want to work 40 hours a week but reduce your "desired hours" to less than 40 on Serveme.  You will not get offered 40 hours, even if additional shifts within your availability come up.

4. If you reduce your availability and/or desired hours to your Guaranteed Minimum Hours (GMH) then both your future actual hours and your GMH will go down.

For example: You normally work 30 hours and your GMH is 24 per week. If you reduce your availability and/or desired hours to 24 then your actual hours will drop to 24 or less and your GMH to less than 20 hours a week.

Please note that you are entitled to ask for more than 40 "desired hours" a week, but the company is not required to offer you any additional available hours above 40.

It is sensible to regularly review your availability and desired hours to make sure it is accurately reflects when you are available for work and how many hours each week you want to work,

BUT....

Do not let managers pressure you to reducing availability or desired hours below what you want.

Doing so allows them to hire new workers or give additional shifts to others when they should have been offered to you first.

If you have been pressured to make changes on Serveme then say "NO" and let us know immediately.
