Breaks at HMSC

At HMSC, the company which operates most food and coffee outlets in the departure area at the Auckland International Airport workers brought to the attention of the union the problems that they were having in accessing breaks. Unite has been negotiating with the company and pushing hard for the workers to get their breaks. Unite has also gone to the Employment Relations Authority to ask for back-pay for all missed breaks. The organiser working with members on the issue has created exposure in the media and won support for these workers. More and more employees are joining up to the union and being more assertive about basic work rights such as taking breaks.
